Spider Crab Fun Facts

Although this won't be a necessarily long page, these are still a few fun facts I've picked up specifically for this!

  • Japanese Spider Crabs have by far the largest and longest leg span out of any and all arthropods
    • Although on average it goes up around 1 to 2.75 meters (3.3 to 3.9 feet), the longest they're able to stretch out that's been recorded is 3.7 to 4 meters (12 to 13 feet)
  • They share the general life span of a human being, able to live up to 100 years
  • Although this is elaborated on further in its respective topic, these spider crabs are generally omnivorous scavengers in regards to their diet.
  • Though the female crabs can be big, the male spider crabs overall tend to be much larger, as well as being armed with bigger claws.
  • Even in adulthood, their legs can and will continue growing and regenerating regardless of age.
